Dingleberry Pi now powered by Nginx

To coincide with my three part tutorial, the site is now powered by Nginx instead of Apache2 on a Raspberry Pi web server – and the results speak for themselves. I’ve observed a 10% increase in speed for queries, and a 42% increase in homepage load. Pingdom tools has also marked an improvement, with the site being quicker than 88% of sites tested, up from the previous 72%.

I’m currently trying to get a group or society with a large following to conduct load testing under Nginx. I will keep you posted. If you are a manager of a Raspberry community, get in touch and we’ll get a test put together!

  1. Thank you very much for your three tutorials you have written, very good! After this I tested to see how fast/slow my website was and it was slow. I wonder what you have done to get wordpress fast? Except what you have suggested in the tutorial. If I remove wordpress the wait-time from my site is 68ms but when I have wordpress installed the wait-time is 2.5 sec in average. Do you have any suggestion?

I switched to nginx as well, but found that the Raspberry Pi couldn’t handle all the other services I was throwing at it as well. I’ve moved my wordpress nginx server over to a NUC running Ubuntu. The setup is almost identical to setting up the Raspberry Pi, so initially setting up on a Raspberry Pi was really helpful. It still runs nginx to run wake on lan and a page with webcam display.
